ABOUT THE BOOK:
The title “shoddy rap in blue,” like many of the phrases superimposed on the images in this book, is a play on words. In this case, it's a subversion of the title of George Gershwin's mythical 1924 composition, “Rhapsody in Blue.” Published in a limited edition of only 100 copies, this tattered tribute to his centenary is a collection of arrangements between photos and words, a kind of shoddy photocopy of the original, turned inside out and dragged across the earth, accompanied by hip hop instead of classical music. Yo, mekie Gersh!? The themes vary, from popular culture and sports to politics and love, etc. – but their common thread is a satirical gaze, a desire to mock the seriousness that affects us all today.
